Drinking healthily contributes to your overall health

Water is the healthiest drink, par excellence. Water quenches thirst, moisturizes the skin and is ideal for the body as it acts on toxins, favouring their elimination through the kidneys, which are responsible for removing the waste that our body does not need.

In addition to water, there are other beverages that provide health benefits. The most important are:

  • Juices and smoothies rich in vitamins and nutrients.
  • Sparkling water, which also has diuretic properties and is calorie free.
  • Tea and infusions, which are relaxing and healthy due to their diuretic properties.
Drinking 2 litres of water a day is recommended.

Water is the healthiest drink par excellence as it provides great benefits to the body: satisfactory hydration, controlling body temperature and eliminating toxins.

This unbeatable gift of nature is the preferred option to meet daily fluid intake needs, which is estimated at two litres. Water is essential for metabolic and physiological functions because it provides elements that are essential for the human body to function properly.

However, a healthy and balanced diet can also include other types of healthy drinks besides water that provide a high energy content and excellent nutritional value.

Sparkling water contains dissolved carbonic acid, which creates small bubbles. This type of water is characterized by its slightly bitter taste and, as with regular water, has no calories, so it can be used for combating excess weight and obesity, if you are not hypertensive.

This water, thanks to the properties provided by the carbonic acid, stimulates the secretion of gastric juices thus facilitating the digestion process. However, those suffering from aerophagia or bloating should avoid consuming this and other carbonated beverages because they worsen symptoms such as gas and bloating, among others.

Fruit juice is liquid that is extracted from plants. They are extremely rich in vitamins and nutrients. A balanced diet should include at least three fruits every day. Juice is therefore ideal for incorporating fruit into a healthy diet, whether between meals as a snack or dessert.

Sugary juices give us more energy, so starting the day with a banana juice, pear or grape, and beet, with a base of lemon or orange juice is recommended. Watermelon and cantaloupe have high water content and, combined with cucumber, tomato, lemon or orange, are both a perfect choice for beating the heat.

All juices provide lots of water, thus they are apt for ingesting liquids.

Infusions are perfect for health because they have polyphenols, catechins and antioxidants that provide multiple benefits.

Drinking fluids before, during or after meals is not associated with gaining or losing weight. What happens is that gastric juices are diluted, slowing down digestion so that it takes longer to occur. That’s why it’s recommended that people with difficult or slow digestion avoid drinking during or right after meals.
