Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways.
Risk factors. Children are the most likely to have asthma. It can vary from mild to very dangerous. The symptoms are caused by a narrowing of the airway causing there to be more mucus and thus a lack of air.
Prevention. Exposure to inappropriate environment (cold, humidity or allergic conditions), exercise or effort in hyper-reactive patients, and emotional stress can trigger an attack.
Treatment. A combination of drugs and environmental changes.
