Conjunctivitis is swelling (inflammation) of the conjunctiva, the thin, transparent membrane that lines the inside of the eyelids and the white part of the eye.
Symptoms. The conjunctiva is a mucous membrane (produces mucus so that the water phase of the tear does not evaporate), which keeps the surface of the eye moist and protected. When the conjunctiva becomes irritated or inflamed, blood vessels become larger and more prominent, making your eyes appear red. The red mark on the eye can be bilateral joined. Smoke and fumes can irritate the conjunctiva and cause conjunctivitis.
Treatment. Depends on the type of conjunctivitis you have.
