COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a disease associated with the consumption of tobacco characterized by the difficulty in air passing through the bronchi.
Symptoms. Symptoms provoke choking when walking or increasing activity, coughing and phlegm. This disease is also called chronic bronchitis (inflamed bronchi) or emphysema (when the walls of the alveoli are destroyed).
Prevention. Quitting smoking is the best method of prevention. Non-smokers are advised not to frequent places with smoke.
Treatment. Includes medicines and sometimes surgery to relieve severe symptoms.
