A haemorrhage is the loss of blood from the circulatory system.
Bleeding may be internal or external, through a natural opening like the mouth, nose, ear, urethra, vagina or anus, or through a break in the skin.
A healthy person can tolerate the loss of 10 to 15% of all medical blood without too many difficulties. A larger volume of blood loss is more life-threatening.
Treatment. From loss of blood through the nose to loss blood from an open wound, the most important thing is to contain and stop the bleeding. The person suffering the haemorrhage must be put in a horizontal position with legs raised and the flow of blood should be stopped by pressing with a piece of clean clothing.
