Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumour in any of the ovaries; it usually has no symptoms.
Risk factors. Older women are more likely to have ovarian cancer. About 90% percent of women with ovarian cancer are over 40 years old, and most are 60 years of age or older.
This type of cancer is not common, yet it causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system due to late detection. The sooner it is diagnosed and treated, the better the chance of recovery.
Treatment. To diagnose it, physical and pelvic examinations are done, as well as laboratory tests, an ultrasound or a biopsy. An operation is usually followed by chemotherapy.
