People who have anorexia nervosa generally don’t know about the illness nor the high risks that are involved.
The intense fear of weight gain causes them to follow a rigorous diet in which they restrict food, especially those that they consider to be high in calories. Therefore, to lose weight they also do other dangerous things such as induced vomiting, the use and abuse of laxatives and diuretics, consuming drugs to suppress hunger and physical over activity.
The eating disorder (TCA, anorexia and bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder) affects more than 5% of adolescents and youth, but also occurs in adults.
