For pain, your doctor will prescribe painkillers and recommend that you eat a low-fat diet. If your first episode is especially acute, or if episodes repeat, doctors usually recommend surgery to remove the gallbladder (cholecystectomy).
Call your doctor whenever you have severe abdominal pain with or without nausea or vomiting. If you have symptoms of gallstones and you suddenly present fever and chills, it can signal a gallbladder infection (cholecystitis).
