Plaque Psoriasis is the most common manifestation and is characterized by red skin areas that appear thick with whitish scales on top. If there are more flakes, the lesions are whiter; if there are fewer, the scales are redder.
If the plates cover much body’s surface, this is called widespread psoriasis. Usually the plates are located on the knees, elbows and sacral area, but they may appear elsewhere in the body.
The goal of treatment is to reduce to a minimum or eliminate injuries and reduce disease activity in order to improve the patient’s quality of life. There are three main groups of treatments for psoriasis (topical, phototherapy and systemic treatments). The various treatments can be applied in combination or alternating.
