The bronchi are tubes that connect the trachea to the alveoli. Air flows through them in both directions, from the outside, bringing oxygen into the body, and vice versa, to extract carbon dioxide.
In bronchial tubes of an asthmatic, mucus “plugs” are observed. The smooth muscle is inflamed and mucous glands, which produce mucus, are loaded and enlarged.
- Tight muscle
- Inflamed bronchial wall
- Airway
- Excess mucus
