During the first weeks of pregnancy, the development of the embryo’s tissues and vital organs, such as the heart, brain, and limbs begins.
This is the "embryonic period", which lasts until week 10 (two months), counting from the date of the last period. From this week on, the "foetus" as we will call it going forward, begins rapid growth. Differentiation of the organs, hands, feet, ossified skeleton is completed and the formation of the external genitalia begins. The foetus now begins to look more like a newborn.
The heart is now beating! At this stage the foetus only measures about 8-9 cm and weighs about 15 grams. Week after week, the foetus will grow and organ development and functioning will be completed.
