A migraine is a type of headache that is characterised by repeated episodes of great intensity, which may prevent the affected person carry out activities, and it often last for hours or, less frequently, several days.
Risk factors. It is three times more common in women than in men and usually begins before the age of thirty and not later than fifty.
Causes. There is often a family history of migraines. It may be triggered by various stimuli such as food (cheese, red wine, chocolate), strong odours, bright lights, weather changes, changes in sleep patterns, hormonal changes or stress.
