Every year more than 1 million people commit suicide around the world and over 20 million attempt suicide. At the same time, the lives of family and friends who survive them are very much affected.
Symptoms. Depression. Hopelessness. Inability to grapple with the stresses of everyday life. Feelings of loneliness, having no social ties. Suffering and pain due to a physical illness. Believing that death is more desirable than life.
If you are thinking about suicide, or you know someone in that situation:
- You should not try to fix the situation by yourself.
- Talk about your concerns with someone close.
- Get professional help as soon as possible: a family doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist, etc.
- Stay with the person in crisis until he can be attended to.
