The liver is the most voluminous viscera of the human body. It weighs about 1.5 kg and is located in the upper-right quadrant of the abdominal cavity, beneath the diaphragm and protected by the lower ribs.
Cirrhosis is a process by which the liver becomes fibrous and causes scarring on the liver, usually due to injury or prolonged illness. The diseased tissue lose their functionality such as protein synthesis, the metabolism of drugs and toxins or of gluconeogenesis, thus leading to liver failure and related complications.
