There are different chemical preparations that fall in this category, such as pills that purport to alter the empathic perception of belonging to a group, or the relationship to others. As with all drugs, in addition to their intrinsic action, the main problem is that the composition is unknown and therefore so are the potential harmful effects to those who are exposed to them.
An immediate effect of this drug is an increase in body temperature, abnormal rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), dehydration. People describe dizziness, fainting, and even death by hyperthermia (heat stroke).
There are studies that talk about long-term effects of ecstasy, linking its use with depression and psychotic symptoms. Also it causes sleep disorders and anxiety (panic attacks). Physically, kidney and liver failure are described.
